Frequently asked questions - the first week - We've received so many questions in the past few days, I thought it would be best to answer the most common ones here:
I can't find my mosque! What kind of site is this? It is a user-driven site that depends on you, dear reader, to help build and maintain the database. While we are busy adding mosques on our own (there are still about 500 mosques & schools that are being added by the salat-o-matic team over the next week, and we're aiming to go over the 1000 mark soon), if you don't see your mosque, you can add it and make our job a lot easier.
How do I add a masjid or school? Just navigate to the area where the masjid/school should be, then click on the "Add Mosque" link in the upper right corner.
What kind of review should I leave? Try to be as constructive as possible - this site is meant as a positive resource for Muslims and the institutions that serve them. Overly harsh or critical reviews, with sweeping generalizations, slurs, or accusations, will be removed. Also, this is not a place for theological debate.
Please make sure to read our FAQ for more answers to your pressing questions. | |

We're open for business! - Assalamu alaikum, and welcome to salat-o-matic - an editable database of mosques and Islamic schools anywhere in the world where Muslims are a minority! Based on the same review engine as zabihah.com, this site is meant to help you find the Muslim institutions in your area that meet your needs. Our purpose is to keep our community resources accountable to those they serve, by having honest reviews about facilities, activities, and quality of service. But we can't be a success without you! Please add the institutions in your area to our growing database, and review the ones in your area, so that salatomatic.com can become a valuable resource! |
The public beta begins - The basic structure of salat-o-matic is now done, and we need your help! We'll be spending the next few weeks adding more than 1000 mosques to the database, and you can help by doing one of two things: adding mosques in your area that aren't already on our database, and editing mosques already in the database to include information we don't have yet. |
Welcome to salat-o-matic! - Thank you for participating in the closed beta release of salat-o-matic. Now that the initial coding has been completed, we need you to make sure everything works all right, including the record submission & editing features, as well as the site navigation. Make sure that mosques and schools are listed in their proper area, and check for duplicates. Report all bugs to us here. Thank you in advance for all your help! |

| | ★★★★★ I became muslim in this community and everyone is very welcoming and friendly. There are people from all nationalities and backgrounds that attend this masjid because it is the only masjid in Lansing. Despite the building construction in the 70's which isnt very modern the women and the men do have joint lectures and events and i never felt put in the corner b/c i am a woman. The masjid also has a FT islamic school Pre-K -8th grade attached in the back. |

| | ★★★★★ i sent my daughter their only thinking about her protection, i had no choice, i haven't had good experiences with islamic schools, but thisone changed my mind for sure, my daughter is now in U of T, i see no reason for anybody not to send their daughter here, it's the same as a public school except all of the nonsense, | - Posted for Mariyahon July 17, 2008

| | ★★★★★ Masjid offers many activities on a daily basis - be it tajweed or basketball. The masjid has its own cafe with pretty good food, which is mostly zabihah. The imam, from Syria, is phenomenal. There are 3 shifts for Dhur prayer on Friday because of the overwhelming number of community members. This masjid has a lot of potential. |

| | ★★★★★ For contemporary minded Muslims. One of the most spacious ,well lit and really clean & well kept centers in CA. Every Eid host community brunch with plenty of food ,games and gifts for children.New Muslims and Non Muslims feel comfortable and welcome because worshipers are used to having public schools students and other groups attend Friday prayers and other civic engagement programs. Regular free outreach ,educational and cultural programs and forums.Unlike most other mosques this place is well connected with government agencies ,City officials ,colleges and schools.Only drawback is lack of Islamic school for children. |

| | ★★★★ The youth halaqa here has opened up to college students and adults. MashAllah this is by far the BEST ongoing and consistent halaqa I have ever seen. They get on average about 200 youth every Friday night. They get a host of speakers including Imam Zaid and SH. Hamza. Their website is www.haywardhalaqah.com. It has not been updated recently, but their halaqah is still going strong every Friday night. You can contact Farhad for more info at fbajawory@gmail.com and Ahmed at ahmadtarin@aol.com
It's also for brothers and sisters and they get about half brothers, half sisters....definitely worth checking out if you're in town. |

| | ★★★★★ I do miss the 'old days' when the Muslim community met under the same roof to worshiip. It is sad that the community has fragmented into separate Jamaas (congregations) as it has.
Anyway, I miss the old days when Ahmad (Al) Seede lead prayers on Fridays. I must say that I do like what is going on now. Lebanese pastries after Juma prayer, active youth groups, mosque open most of the day. Sucessive boards of directors have taken the 'good old mosque' and made it even better. Well done. |

| | ★★★★ I'm rathers saddened by the vast amount of money that the board of directors of Madinah Masjid are spending. Minarets and domes are truly a waste of money. The millions spent could have been invested in Islamic education for local children or feeding the poor overseas.
In any event, the board of directors notwithstanding, I love this mosque. I frequented this mosque since the early 80's. I've long since moved overseas, but I do miss the Saturday tablighi ijtamas and the meals and sleep overs after the bayan (speachs). A little rough on the edges, but I loved it.
I do hope that board of Madinah Mosque does not go the way of many other mosques and lose it's 'spirituality'by turning this place into a shrine to their vanity. |

| | ★★★ This is a very immigrant-dominated mosque and not completely representative of the Muslim population in Cambridge which also includes a lot of students and young American-born professionals. The imam is a great guy (masha'Allah), very knowledgeable. However, I'm not a fan of going there for jumah because its extremely crowded and if you're in the women's section its a real zoo. I do like going there for other prayers because I pray in the main (men's) section, and the imam is fine with it. A random guy might try to put a partition in front of you, but you can take care of that.
And yes, it is pretty MAS-dominated, much to my chagrin (not that I think MAS is bad, but I think a major mosque like this should be independent). |
