 | ★★ I was dissappointed with the fact that such a large facility that boasts a great amount of wealth can be on the greedy side. I asked about having a nikah there and being able to bring some food so that the people who came from long distances, some from overseas can be treated well. However small this request was the imam could not commit to a day more than a week in advance and could not be ceratin even then. Needless to say the concept of bring food there was not something he was in favor of. I was so disappointing to be refered to a banquet facility to have our nikah. The sunnah is to have a walima after the nikah so that people can eat and congradulate the couple, not to go broke on two banquets. It was diappointing to be told in a round about way that we just need to go elsewhere and spend a lot of money. I respect the mans religious training, but I did not appreciate the lack of commitment or the fact he demanded a flat rate of $150.00 to perform the nikah. For someone practicing the sunnah I thought it was rather SHOCKING to be asked for a high monetary amount such as that after we just told him we can't afford to do a big banquet hall. I've never read any haddith where the Prophet (saw) asked money to lead prayer, marry someone, or any other service as such. Very disappointing at the heart of things, but yes, the building is pretty and clean if that means anything in the end... |

 | ★ Very little sense of community here and zero to few salams to be extended. I will be honest and say that I was once a guest at the house of the imam and I could not believe the way he spoke about the masjid not giving him enough money and the people have too many problems. I feel that this honestly is NOT backbiting but that I am informing people that the heart of this imam is not in the best place. I believe that the congregation suffers for that. There is also political promotions for things such as movies that take place at the masjid. Events will be double booked such as an Ahkekha and a video promotion of the same day! Many people have no sense of descency and will help themselves to anything of yours they see fit or will invite themselves to a private event. uest speakers as well as the imam will sometimes drag a Khutbah out over an hour up to an hour and a half! People have to get to work. Its hard enough being Muslim in America without being late to jobs or such things and giving them a REAL reason to fire you. The bathrooms are filthy most of the time and there are only 2 seats to make wudu for ladies. The most beautiful thing about this place is sadly the building itself... |

 | ★★★★★ MashaAllah. A true diamond in the rough. The bathrooms were kinda in disrepair and the area surrounding it is a bit harsh but, wallahi, the sense of community I felt at this masjid has no comparison. The brothers make a sincere effort to follow the sunnah and you get the sense they love you fisabeelillah. MashaAllah. |

 | ★★★★★ As salaam ua laikum. This masjid is truly a multi-cultural masjid with various races and ethnicities represented at every salat. After each Jum'uah there are vendors who sell food, clothing, books, etc...There are many activities for children like camping, swimming, basketball, Arabic, etc...There are also Deen classes as well, such as fiqh, janazah, Qur'an, etc...The masjid is between two major hospitals, museums, and a college but still in the inner city. So, there are muslims here from all walks of life, marsha'Allah. as salaam ua laikum. |

I do not know who the imam is now, but I have only had good experiences there. As salaam ua laikum. |

 | ★★★★★ We have just recently moved in albuquerque, and the presence of Masjid in this town is very good. They organize many activities in which all muslims are invited. Their website has complete infrmation about all the on going activities. I think it is a great mosque for men and women to gather on fridays and on special occasions and get to know each other and all the muslims living in the vicinity, the mosque is very clean and well-kept. Seperate area for women and children is very clean, tidy and open. I love coming to this mosque for prayers and meeting my fellow muslims |

 | ★★★★★ I visited this mosque around a year ago. It is a wonderful place alhamdulillah. The prayer hall was beautiful and calm. The inside of the dome was beautifully carved from wood. It was comfortable and relaxing. If I lived around the mosque, I'd want to spend all day there. The courtyard area was decorated with amazing mosaics and there was a fountain in the centre. We traveled along way to get to this mosque and it was well worth it. There is a halal restaurant outside the mosque around the corner, they are very expensive! |

 | ★★★★★ This was the first Masjed in Salt Lake City that was bought by a number of people in the 80's and now it's getting more muslims every year.
They have a new building next door just for the women. The Masjed is always open and they're still working on improvments.
Sunday school is avalible through out the school year teaching Quran and Fiqah. |

 | ★★★★★ I became muslim in this community and everyone is very welcoming and friendly. There are people from all nationalities and backgrounds that attend this masjid because it is the only masjid in Lansing. Despite the building construction in the 70's which isnt very modern the women and the men do have joint lectures and events and i never felt put in the corner b/c i am a woman. The masjid also has a FT islamic school Pre-K -8th grade attached in the back. |

 | ★★★★★ Masjid offers many activities on a daily basis - be it tajweed or basketball. The masjid has its own cafe with pretty good food, which is mostly zabihah. The imam, from Syria, is phenomenal. There are 3 shifts for Dhur prayer on Friday because of the overwhelming number of community members. This masjid has a lot of potential. |

Every Eid host community brunch with plenty of food ,games and gifts for children.New Muslims and Non Muslims feel comfortable and welcome because worshipers are used to having public schools students and other groups attend Friday prayers and other civic engagement programs. Regular free outreach ,educational and cultural programs and forums.Unlike most other mosques this place is well connected with government agencies ,City officials ,colleges and schools.Only drawback is lack of Islamic school for children. |

They get on average about 200 youth every Friday night. They get a host of speakers including Imam Zaid and SH. Hamza. Their website is www.haywardhalaqah.com. It has not been updated recently, but their halaqah is still going strong every Friday night. You can contact Farhad for more info at fbajawory@gmail.com and Ahmed at ahmadtarin@aol.com
It's also for brothers and sisters and they get about half brothers, half sisters....definitely worth checking out if you're in town. |

 | ★★★★★ I do miss the 'old days' when the Muslim community met under the same roof to worshiip. It is sad that the community has fragmented into separate Jamaas (congregations) as it has.
Anyway, I miss the old days when Ahmad (Al) Seede lead prayers on Fridays. I must say that I do like what is going on now. Lebanese pastries after Juma prayer, active youth groups, mosque open most of the day. Sucessive boards of directors have taken the 'good old mosque' and made it even better. Well done. |
|
 | | London, E15 |
|
 | ★★★★ I'm rathers saddened by the vast amount of money that the board of directors of Madinah Masjid are spending. Minarets and domes are truly a waste of money. The millions spent could have been invested in Islamic education for local children or feeding the poor overseas.
In any event, the board of directors notwithstanding, I love this mosque. I frequented this mosque since the early 80's. I've long since moved overseas, but I do miss the Saturday tablighi ijtamas and the meals and sleep overs after the bayan (speachs). A little rough on the edges, but I loved it.
I do hope that board of Madinah Mosque does not go the way of many other mosques and lose it's 'spirituality'by turning this place into a shrine to their vanity. |

|
 | ★★★ This is a very immigrant-dominated mosque and not completely representative of the Muslim population in Cambridge which also includes a lot of students and young American-born professionals. The imam is a great guy (masha'Allah), very knowledgeable. However, I'm not a fan of going there for jumah because its extremely crowded and if you're in the women's section its a real zoo. I do like going there for other prayers because I pray in the main (men's) section, and the imam is fine with it. A random guy might try to put a partition in front of you, but you can take care of that.
And yes, it is pretty MAS-dominated, much to my chagrin (not that I think MAS is bad, but I think a major mosque like this should be independent). |
|
 | | Framingham, MA |
|
 | ★★★★ ICB Wayland is my favorite mosque in Massachusetts. Why?
Pros:
-The women can actually feel like full and equal participants since there is no partition in the prayer hall or anywhere else
-Out of the mosques in the area, Wayland has the best record for consistent and successful youth activity
-It is a very open-minded and moderate community, no extreme conservatism to be found
-The people are nice!
Cons:
-There is no imam, so the community can be lacking in religious direction which can make it vulnerable
Still, I have had an overall great experience there and I definitely recommend it. |

 | ★★★★ As I walked through the ghetto to get there,I wasnt sure what to expect. I read in advance that the sisters entrance was in the back....sure is! The only way I could tell its backdoor from all the others was that someone had tacked a little sticker on the backdoor with the bismillah in arabic. Its too bad that sisters have to deal with such things even at the most wealthy mosques. Anyhow, despite the run-down musalla where the TV kept turning off and needing to be turned on again....if you can believe it I enjoyed myself there. It had a humble air about it that reminded me how the Prophet's masjid might have been. It helped that the imam that day was Djafer Sebkhaoui, I don know if he's regular now but our MSA had brought him to syracuse years back so I was touched when he appeared on the TV screen. Go for the sisterhood and the good khutba, and donate generously. |

 | ★★★★ I've been to this masjid for 8 years. I've seen this masjid grow and improve especially for the full-time Islamic school, from being just an entity at the masjid's basement into one that has its own building. This is one of the pioneer masajids that has spawned others in Indianapolis to cater for the convenience of the jama'ah especially for Jumu'ah. The diversity of the demographics make you feel more welcomed. There are fiqh and Qur'an memorization classes conducted on-site to name a few as well as the regular Sunday school. As a self-supporting and fledgling masjid compared to the ones in Detroit or Washington DC, if you will the expression, there are teething problems and catering to the whims of every Tom, Dick or Harry may prove quite difficult. Since the post made on February 20, 2006 the masjid now has a larger space for sisters as well as overflow areas for both brothers and sisters. The masjid committee constantly monitors the khutbah by having a resident scholar from Algeria training khateebs and checking the contents.
Despite the many shortcomings I still go to this masjid just because of the serene feeling I when I am there. It's very hard to explain in words, but that's the best I can do. |

 | ★ I know how you feel!!!!!!!!! they're not even letting the life members do anything to help!and whenever they try to help the so called "president" always calls the police, some nerve he has! They are all pretty sneeky! They are even hiding the member forms so that the new people can't become members! I've been asking for them for so long it seems they keep on getting "lost" in the mail! they just don't want new members coming in and voting as we all know the majority rules, which means for the people who are pulling this mischeif that they will be overruled and they won't hear of that! i'm pretty sure for the people who filled out those forms before they started to get "lost" their forms were probably burned ages ago! i'd report this to the authorities but it's the matter of the fact that the authorities are most likely in this too!!!! and it is not the mosque you should dissapointed by it is the people who run it, i think what this mosque needs is more ladies to help run it (they have a say now too!!!) and the younger generation to start taking over, i've spoken to alot of the youngins and they are up for the challenge! we need all that and on top of that we need to hear out the life members!!!! this dilemma will not and i repeat WILL NOT be sloved by police officers being called every chance they get....sooner or later the police will even get tired of this if they aren't already!!!! haven't they ever heard of the boy that cried wolf? if they don't like this post... TOUGH...this problem shouldn't have arrised in the first place! |

 | ★★★★ Masjid Noor is located at the corner of Geneva Street and Welland Avenue in St. Catherines Ontario. It is about a 25 minute drive from Buffalo/Fort Erie. This mosque has a wonderful atmosphere. The mosque is both child and woman friendly. The Friday Khutba is Quran/Hadith based with little referance to politics or other issues that can potentially divide people. Lots of lectures, seminars, youth activities. The congregation is a mix of Arab (Lebanese, Syrian, North African, etc), Somalian, Bosnian and quite a few converts. Well worth the drive from Niagara Falls for those on vacation. |

 | ★★ Sisters pray in the same rows as brothers, 'separated' by a token knee high 'barrier' and sometimes the children cast votes to allow sisters to pray in front. Wallahi this is true as photos from the masjid's own website show. There is nothing 'traditional' about this masjid besides the architecture. |

 | ★★★ Full time imam residing on the premises thereby offering five times prayers consistently. Women's room available, although often it must be upon request if the crowd is large. Structure currently a home with plans to build a new building adjacent to the existing one. Daily Qur'an classes for children available. Predominantly desi crowd. Parking available but limited. Single restroom is adequate but not fantastic. Wudu area is open to prayer hall with no barrier. |
