Founded in 1978, the Islamic Center at NYU caters to a wide audience, with its community education initiatives, employment advice assistance forums, graduate student organizations, lectures by prominent American and international scholars, men's and women's intramural sports teams, noted weekend camps and retreats, social gatherings, themed events and programs, daily and weekly Friday prayer services and the like. The building is currently under renovation, and the group has moved to a temporary space. The new Islamic Center facility is located in the basement level of St. Joseph's Church, which is located at 371 Sixth Avenue (corner of 6th Avenue and Washington Place).

★★★★★  ICNYU is a well-organized MSA, one that is more active than average I'd say. It's open to the public, so Muslims in the area occasionally drop by for the prayers. It's a fairly large MSA, there is a large hall used for Jummah and iftars, which draw well over 100 people. On regular days, you will find about a dozen Muslims more or less for the evening prayers, alhamdulilah. The MSA is active, and holds events and connects with the other MSAs in the city.
