Founded in 1978, the Islamic Center at NYU caters to a wide audience, with its community education initiatives, employment advice assistance forums, graduate student organizations, lectures by prominent American and international scholars, men's and women's intramural sports teams, noted weekend camps and retreats, social gatherings, themed events and programs, daily and weekly Friday prayer services and the like.
The building is currently under renovation, and the group has moved to a temporary space. The new Islamic Center facility is located in the basement level of St. Joseph's Church, which is located at 371 Sixth Avenue (corner of 6th Avenue and Washington Place).
