Since 1953, the ICSC has been a forward-thinking, active mosque that serves the greater Los Angeles area. The membership of this community helped give birth to the Muslim Public Affairs Council, the Minaret magazine, the Islamic Information Service (home of the 'Islam' syndicated TV program), Muslim Women's League and the award-winning New Horizon School system. This is a multicultural community that tends to be more liberal/progressive on theological and political issues. Very active and independent youth group, as well as services for the local community. I can't think of another mosque that has had such a large impact on the greater American Muslim community than this one. This mosque had a majority of women on its board nearly two decades ago, and has had an independent youth group that manages to instill a well-balanced American Muslim identity. I credit this mosque for making me into the type of Muslim that I am today. |
